These four were my favorite princesses as a kid. I watched these movies all the time. These four are still some of my favorite princesses, with the addition of Snow White. To this day I still relate with all of them. Ariel is still my favorite Disney character but I’ve always had a deep connection with her and the Little Mermaid. All four of them are dreamers. They want more than what they currently have. Ariel wanted to be a human and experience the world she loved. Belle wanted to go on an adventure and not just read about them in her books. Jasmine wanted to experience life and not be cooped up in her castle. She also wanted to choose who she loved and not be forced to marry one of the many jackasses her father tried to get her to marry. Pocahontas wanted to follow her heart. She didn’t know what was in store for her but she knew it wasn’t the simple path that was being chosen for her. All of them wanted to experience life and for someone who has spent the past 22 years living in the same place, I understand that. I understand wanting to go on an adventure and not just live in a provincial town. I understand wanting to see the world you’ve been dreaming about/learning about your entire life. I understand not wanting your parents to dictate your life and choose the right path for you.

There are flaws in all of their movies. However, as characters, they are some of the strongest women in the Disney canon. They fight for what they believe in. They actively try to change their fate. They care about their family. All of them call the men in their life out on their bullshit, even if not all the men listen. Ariel tried telling her father humans are not bad but he refused to listen. Belle actively called both the Beast and Gaston out on their crap. She demanded respect from both of them. Jasmine called all the men out in her life and reminded them she is no prize to be won. Pocahontas actively called Smith out on his racism. They all stand up for themselves and what they want. I can honestly say, I am glad I grew up watching their movies. I doubt I would be the same person without them.

Excuse my love for Disney Princesses, it’ll never fade…. and these ladies were totally my favorites.

So… that just happened on facebook.. I’m kind of regretting not going further into how much of an idiot this guy is… ugh.
